If it was just the sad then anything is better than that but there are other diets better and healthier than the vegan diet. Plant based diet does not have all the nutrients humans need to thrive, the alternative plant based nutrients are not as bio available to our bodies as animal foods. Hence the amount of defiencies we have like iron, vit d, and vitb12 etc. No wonder we are getting more dementia and brittle bones etc as we get older.

Researchers also found that body weight decreased by about 14 pounds on average when eating plant-based, compared to a gain of about two pounds on the placebo diet.

This is very likely the main effect of the vegan diet responsible for the improvement in joint pain. Though of course the anti-inflammatory components of plant foods didn’t hurt either. But it’s well-documented that weight is a key factor in joint issues.
